Maritza’s Uplifting Example

Honduras Reported by Convoy of Hope

Maritza is a woman full of life and excitement for her future. She is proud of her business, enthusiastic about teaching her children, and sincere about someday providing economic opportunities to those in her own community.

When asked about her life, Maritza enjoys explaining how she learned the necessary skills to make strides in her own situation. This happened when she took part in Convoy of Hope’s Women’s Empowerment program after the training was brought to her village in Honduras.

“The best thing that has happened to me is being part of Convoy of Hope. It has helped me to strengthen and improve the goals that I set for myself,” she said. “Not only do we receive talks to train us to be entrepreneurs, but … we are told about … self-esteem, to feel good about ourselves.”

The encouragement she received about her own worth has uplifted her spirit, and her newfound joy and confidence shine through as she runs her new business.

“I have a home-based business. I sell smoothies, baleadas […] and I also make soaps that I learned to make in the Convoy of Hope project,” Maritza said. “I’m happy to know that I am offering quality products to my clients. I like to investigate what I’m going to give to people.”

Before Maritza participated in the Women’s Empowerment program, her family was faced with economic difficulties and debt, especially during the pandemic.

Now, she is setting an example for her children, to support themselves in the future and to dream big while utilizing the resources they have around them.

“I’m teaching them to be visionaries — that one day Honduras will know our products, and one day we will be able to offer jobs to other people,” she said. “There are resources here that we can use without the need to emigrate to another country.”

Without support from people like you, Maritza would not have been given the skills she now uses to inspire those around her.

“Thank you for the support we have received, for the respect and love you give us. Thank you for the resources you give us.”
