Washington Communities Battle Wildfires: Convoy Responds

Firefighters have started containing the wildfires burning in Washington state — though safety for families is not yet guaranteed.
With evacuation orders still in place, tens of thousands of individuals still wait to see what has happened to their homes and belongings.
Upcoming weather forecasts show risks of higher temperatures and lower humidity — which will not help firefighters contain the blazes.
“We’re looking down the barrel at one of the worst fire seasons in state history,” said Thomas Kyle-Milward, a spokesperson for the Washington Department of Natural Resources.
In these tense circumstances, Convoy of Hope is offering survivors hope, with practical items to help meet their daily needs.
Working alongside 12 church partners in the area, Convoy is delivering food, water, hygiene items, cleaning supplies, and air purifiers.

In Spokane County, Washington, three major wildfires are forcing thousands of people to evacuate immediately.
Hundreds of structures have burned. More than 7,700 acres are scorched. Washington’s recent climate has included dry conditions and strong winds — causing the state’s worst fire season in 30 years. The flames are still uncontained.
