Mesa Energy’s Packing Parties Support Disaster Relief

Convoy of Hope recently partnered with EMCOR Services Mesa Energy to host a series of events packing hygiene kits for disaster relief efforts. Approximately 700 participants — including Mesa Energy employees, families, and friends — packed 24,000 bags of personal hygiene supplies on Saturday, April 20, across 10 locations in California and Nevada. The kits will be used for Convoy’s disaster response work, bringing help and hope to communities all over the United States.

This project was the culmination of a growing relationship between Mesa Energy and Convoy, which began in 2011. Mesa Energy started supporting Convoy after seeing the scope and impact of its work through their efforts with the Mechanical Service Contractors Association (MSCA). MSCA regularly collaborates with both national and local charities to engage their 1,200 members in hands-on service projects that support communities across the country.

For several years, Convoy has led relief kit packing events for the attendees of MSCA’s annual conferences. It was there that Bob Lake, Mesa Energy’s President and a former MSCA Chairman, first began formulating the idea for the April 20 events.

Lake said, “Each of our offices works with local charities to provide community support. However, considering our significant growth over the years, we collectively began searching for community programs that could help bring everyone together, working towards a greater cause. We felt Convoy was a great organization to work with. It fit well with the scale of our business, allowing a lot of people to get involved, and we knew they did great work.”

Convoy provided the model for the program, the organization strategy, and the resources to make the multisite, companywide event happen, while Mesa Energy provided an enthusiastic group of volunteers. Many of the events were set up as “packing parties” and included food stations for participants, live DJs for motivation, and even bounce houses and entertainment for kids to promote a family-friendly atmosphere.

“We are incredibly proud of what these events have accomplished,” said Lake. “Being able to support Convoy helps us live up to the values of our own organization, and we are excited to continue growing our relationship with them in the future.”
