Georgia-Pacific Helps Clean Up After Hurricane Beryl
Disasters often leave a huge mess behind. Between flooding, mud, strewn trees, dust, broken glass, and the outdoors making its way indoors, there is a lot to clean up in the aftermath. That’s why cleaning products are an integral part of Convoy of Hope’s distributions.
Floor cleaner, bleach, disinfectant spray, gloves, and trash bags are all compiled, loaded onto trucks, and brought to distributions. But perhaps one of the most underrated and most useful products is paper towels.
That’s where Georgia-Pacific comes in. Georgia-Pacific is one of Convoy’s long-standing partners, and when disaster strikes, they provide paper towels for Convoy to distribute with the cleaning supplies.
“Georgia-Pacific steps up to the plate. We know we can depend on them,” said Convoy’s Director of United States Disaster Services, Eric Gordon.
When Hurricane Beryl made landfall on the Texas coast and knocked out power for more than 2.7 million people, Georgia-Pacific stepped up. They have a location in Corrigan, Texas, where residents went without power for days following the storm. Grocery stores couldn’t open, making everyday necessities that much harder to get.
Convoy ran multiple distributions in Corrigan, and because of our partnership with Georgia-Pacific, Corrigan residents got the cleaning supplies they needed to start recovery and clean up their space.
A representative from Georgia-Pacific even came to the distribution. “[The distribution] was a huge success!” they said. “The community was so touched by Convoy of Hope’s efforts to help those in need. Some residents were brought to tears as their vehicles were loaded with food, water, and cleaning supplies.”
It is because of partners like Georgia-Pacific that Convoy is able to provide help and hope all over the U.S. and across the globe.
