Ready for Change: This Is Sofia’s Story

Moldova Reported by Convoy of Hope

Unlocking the potential of women and girls is proven to be the most effective way to break the cycle of poverty. An integral part of Convoy of Hope’s Women’s Empowerment programming is teaching women about their inherent worth and empowering them to advocate for themselves.

Sofia lives in a small village in Moldova. She is a mother to seven children and is divorced. In Moldova, men are typically the ones who provide the income, whether they travel for work or live in a completely different country and send money back. Being divorced, however, leads to financial problems for women.

Several years ago, Sofia was unable to provide the care for her children because she didn’t have the right resources, and her children were taken away by social workers.

Sofia was devastated.

She no longer wanted her life to be this picture of hardship and struggle. Sofia was ready for a change and knew she needed guidance. Her first step was joining a center to get her life back on track. Upon leaving the center, Sofia was invited to Convoy of Hope’s Women’s Empowerment program at the local church. There, she was taught her worth and continued the growth that had begun at the center.

Sofia’s participation in the programming that Convoy offers has given her structure, an uplifting community, and the tools to grow in her spiritual and emotional health. Through the Women’s Empowerment program, Sofia has seen true change in her life.

“I am deeply grateful to God for granting me the chance to be in the Women’s Empowerment program with Convoy of Hope and giving me the strength to overcome my struggles and reunite with my children,” said Sofia. “My circumstances have significantly improved, and I am committed to remaining steadfast in my faith.”
