Active 2022 Hurricane Season Predicted

Reported by Convoy of Hope
2022 Hurricane Season

For the seventh year in a row, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) predicts a very active 2022 hurricane season for those living along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States. NOAA also estimates there is a 65% chance that 2022 will be an above-normal season.

The season, which started June 1, is likely to produce:

  • 14 to 21 named storms.
  • 6 to 10 hurricanes.
  • 3 to 6 major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher).

Several factors will contribute to the increase in strong storms this year. This includes a persistent La Niña weather pattern, warmer-than-average ocean surface temperatures, and a stronger West African monsoon season that could seed the strongest hurricanes of 2022.
