From Thanksgiving Day to Every Day, Convoy Trains & Equips Community Leaders

USA Reported by Convoy of Hope

The holiday season offers people the chance to give back to their communities, uplift each other, and ensure their neighbors are taken care of. Convoy of Hope is honored to help partners do that all over the nation.

Earlier this month, Convoy led a community outreach partnership event in Valley Stream, New York, with the Hope Day Network. Over 20 pastors received training, meals for Thanksgiving outreaches, and ultimately encouragement as they serve their neighbors this holiday season and beyond.

β€˜From One Day to Every Day’

The day marked an official introduction for new partners to join the Hope Day Network. It also provided an opportunity to train local community leaders for next year’s Hope Day event following a highly successful event this year β€” in June, 20,000 bags of groceries packed by our Hope Crew volunteers were given out along with other supplies across six states and at 43 different locations.

Pastors at this month’s training received five tractor trailer loads of grocery bags full of Thanksgiving-specific food items to distribute in their churches and in community outreaches, and were able to hear about Convoy’s One Day to Feed the World opportunity.

β€œIt spoke to the Hope Network slogan, β€˜from one day to every day,’” said Convoy’s Ron Showers, β€œbecause while they’re dreaming about the future, they’re doing something in the present by getting groceries to their neighbors.”

Looking to the Future

The Hope Day Network was formed 12 years ago out of a partnership between Convoy of Hope and Bethlehem Assembly of God church. Since then, it has grown into a nationwide movement thanks to dedicated pastors keeping the generosity going.

β€œThis partnership started with Convoy of Hope and has now grown into a movement because of [the pastors’] love and leadership for the church,” Ron said.

β€œWe wouldn’t be here without Convoy coming in and investing in us, then walking the journey with us,” said Hope Day Network Founder Steve Milazzo. β€œWe’re thankful for Convoy because they’ve helped us all along the way and been a wonderful partner.”
