In a culture that values sons over daughters, few people came to Naina’s aid as she raised six girls and a boy. Besides raising seven children, she also had the responsibility of running their farm in Nepal.
With so many in the family, making sure that everyone was fed was a difficult task.
“I have a large family so there was a scarcity of food in our house,” Naina said. “During difficulties in the past sometimes I felt … very hopeless looking back on my life.”
But thanks to Convoy of Hope’s Agriculture program, Naina is being trained to feed not just her family, but her community as well. She and five other women from her village have set the example and have earned money from their crops. Naina is even able to send freshly grown vegetables to her daughters who are living in the city.
Before Convoy, Naina’s income was very low. She was dependent on others for finances and food, the tools she needed to take care of her family.
Now, she is equipped with these tools herself, having learned practices such as off-season vegetable farming. “I used to do traditional farming in the past, but after joining Convoy of Hope I’m farming using modern techniques,” she said.
What does Naina hope for? “I want my family, especially my children, to have a prosperous and happy life.”
And despite rough beginnings, Naina’s future is smoothing out. There’s hope for what’s to come for her and her family. And that’s thanks to supporters like you.
