Taking Life by the Reins: Ilda’s Story

Guatemala Reported by Convoy of Hope

For Ilda, life has been anything but normal. She started working when she was 7 years old and was only able to attend school through the sixth grade. And as an adult, she’s felt alone in raising her four children in Guatemala City.

Ilda shared that she has not felt seen or valued in the past. “Before connecting with Convoy of Hope, my life felt completely disordered and miserable,” she said. “I truly believed that no one loved me.”

But now, Ilda has joined CADA — Convoy of Hope’s Center for Outreach, Development, and Friendship (CADA is the acronym in Spanish).

“Getting to know CADA Academy … has been life-changing. Thanks to the opportunity given to me by Convoy of Hope, I’ve felt loved, seen, and dignified,” Ilda said.

Becoming a part of Convoy’s Women’s Empowerment program at CADA has helped Ilda build a new life for herself. “I felt that God was giving me another chance at life … It has helped me so much, because I’ve learned things I never thought I would ever learn,” she said. “I’m fully committing myself to learning design skills so I can start selling my products online and build a better future.”

Besides career skills, Ilda — like many other women at CADA — is learning her worth, her value, and her voice. “My life has changed significantly on an emotional level. Here at CADA Academy, I’ve experienced love and care in ways I never had before — and, for the first time, I feel truly heard,” she said.

Here at Convoy, that’s our goal: to empower women, men, and children from all over the world, and to give them the hope of a better life for themselves. We wouldn’t be able to do that with generous donors like you.
