Convoy of Hope Responds to Conflict in the Middle East

Reported by Convoy of Hope

April 19, 2024 | 10:26 a.m.

After recent events in the Middle East forced teams and partners to shelter in place, Convoy of Hope relief distributions have begun once again. So far, Convoy has distributed nearly 425,000 meals in 21 communities throughout the zone of conflict.

Thank you for continuing to support hurting communities. During times of conflict, the power of a meal in restoring hope cannot be understated.

The ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza continues to ravage the region and the families who live there. The United Nations warns that famine is imminent in northern Gaza.

In an effort to provide hope and combat hunger, Convoy is providing meals to children in Gaza and the surrounding areas. The violence has separated the majority of these children from their families, leaving them to fend for themselves. For many of them, the meal from Convoy is the first food theyโ€™ve had in days.

To date, Convoy has served more than 130,000 people in Israel, Gaza, the West Bank, and Egypt. Additionally, refugees in Egypt receive essential supplies from a local partner, including bedding, food, clothing, and more.

The situation in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank is deteriorating. More than 1 million people face hunger in Gaza alone. When parents can feed their starving families, or a scared child is comforted by a hot meal, or a person who has lost their home receives food and a blanket, they receive hope. In a time where hope seems dwindling or lost, meals can change everything.

Thank you for helping Convoy bring help and hope to people in need during one of the darkest times of their lives.

Access to a kitchen or means of cooking meals is something that is often taken for granted. In war and conflict zones, people flee for their lives, and finding and preparing food is just one of the challenges displaced families face.

This is why Convoy of Hope prioritizes food kits and prepared meals when distributing relief supplies. Since the start of its Middle East response, Convoy has distributed hundreds of thousands of meals to people in need in Israel and Gaza.

Food kits are packed for distribution in response to the conflict in the Middle East.

โ€œWe would not be able to do what we do without our incredible partnerships,โ€ is a phrase that is often said at Convoy of Hope. Through Convoyโ€™s connections to local organizations in the area, families in need have received much-needed diapers, clothing, socks, food kits, hygiene supplies, and more.

This is the most difficult time people in the area have ever experienced. Hope seems dwindling for many. This is when a kit full of food or hygiene supplies or a box of diapers and clothing can mean so much to a family who had to leave everything behind.

Thank you for your continued support as Convoy works to provide help and hope to the devastated people of Israel and Gaza.

Distributions in Israel and Gaza continue as the conflict brings suffering in both areas. Displaced families face a great deal of uncertainty โ€” how to feed their family, find shelter for their children, and stay alive amid such turmoil. In both Israel and Gaza, parents who receive food kits from Convoy have at least one temporary relief: Their children are fed.

Iyad is a resilient 10-year-old boy who once reveled in the laughter of friends and the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals in his bustling neighborhood. The eruption of war shattered Iyadโ€™s world, forcing his family to flee in search of safety. Iyad found himself thrust into the harsh reality of life in a makeshift shelter, facing challenges of limited food, water, and resources.

Emergency family food parcels are being distributed throughout the region.

The conflict disrupted his sense of security and threatened the normalcy of his childhood. Convoyโ€™s aid emerged as a lifeline, providing relief from hunger and a semblance of stability.

โ€œThe aid brought warmth and full stomachs to our nights. I am thankful for the comforting meals that eased our hardships,โ€ Iyad said.

Thank you for helping Convoy provide relief to children like Iyad.

As homes are destroyed across the region, families are fleeing and are in desperate need of help.

People all over Israel and Gaza are devastated, with tens of thousands dead or seriously wounded. The conflict will have lasting effects, and humanitarian aid is vital for survival.

Convoy of Hope is continuing distribution efforts this week. Food parcels were delivered to serve affected families across the conflict zone. The parcels provide enough meals for families for two weeks.

In the coming days, more relief supplies will be purchased locally and be distributed to hundreds of additional families. This is in addition to products being shipped that will arrive as soon as possible.

Convoy of Hope is responding to the conflict in the Middle East, working with multiple partners in the region to ensure devastated families receive vital relief supplies. Containers of diapers, clothing, and other supplies are en route to the region while hundreds of food kits are already being distributed.

Next week, a cargo plane with 40,000 pounds of additional relief supplies will be loaded in the U.S. and flown to the area for immediate distribution.

The conflict that began on October 7 has become the deadliest of all previous conflicts in the region. The violence has displaced an estimated 1.5 million people.

The devastation is widespread. Convoy is committed to helping as much as possible, distributing vital relief supplies and ensuring peopleโ€™s basic needs are met as quickly as possible.
