Convoy of Hope’s Disaster Relief team is providing essential relief to survivors of West Virginia’s sudden and historic flooding emergency.
On Tuesday, widespread, heavy rainfall reached up to 7 inches in some areas and caused the Buckhannon River to surge to 10.6 feet by that night. This beat the region’s decade-long record of 8.3 feet high, set during a 1985 flood event that caused 47 deaths.
No deaths have been reported, but emergency responders are working urgently to rescue people from the floodwaters. Stores, homes, businesses, and belongings are damaged, submerged, or completely washed away.
In all 55 counties, including the hardest-hit areas of Upshur, Lewis, and Pleasants, families are under an official state of emergency.
Stress is high. Rescues are critical.
Convoy of Hope is delivering food, drinking water, and flood relief items — including cleanup supplies and hygiene kits — to communities experiencing devastation. We will continue to support the area’s healing as recovery begins.
