Super Typhoon Sinlaku: Recovery in the Aftermath
April 25, 2026 | 1:54 p.m.
In the days after Super Typhoon Sinlaku, Convoy of Hope delivered relief and hope to five heavily impacted communities.
Partnering with the National Park Service in Saipan, Convoy team members removed fallen trees and debris from roads and walkways, helping restore safety for families in the area. Cases of water and essential supplies were distributed to six local churches, who shared those necessities with their communities. At a Convoy of Hope food distribution, families received much-needed sustenance and support.
Recovery takes time. But with each step, these communities are getting closer to healing, rebuilding, and reigniting hope.

On April 14, Super Typhoon Sinlaku struck the Northern Mariana Islands and the U.S. Territory of Guam. As one of the strongest storms this year, it quickly evolved into a Category 5 storm, reaching winds of 175 mph.
Saipan and Tinian were some of the hardest-hit areas, with trees uprooted, power lines downed, roads blocked by debris, roofs ripped from homes, and communities flooded. They experienced major disruptions to their electricity, water, and transportation. Guam was hit with flooding from the heavy rain and infrastructure damage from strong winds. Across the islands, more than 1,000 people were displaced in emergency shelters.
On April 17, the U.S. declared a public health emergency in the storm’s aftermath.
Convoy of Hope is on the ground in Saipan, responding with local partners to support affected communities with essential aid. Team members are engaged in cleanup efforts — assisting with debris removal to begin restoring damaged buildings. Convoy has sourced hygiene items from local partners to be distributed to families. At a church, volunteers are working alongside Convoy of Hope to clear storm damage from the property, creating a more accessible space for continued recovery efforts and future community gatherings.
