Convoy of Hope’s Louisiana tornado response is underway. Two EF-2 tornadoes — with winds between 113 and 157 mph — tore through the New Orleans area of Louisiana on Wednesday evening. Convoy of Hope is sending a tractor-trailer load of cleaning supplies, water, hygiene items, sports drinks, and food to the area to help those who are recovering.

The storms killed at least three people and damaged as many as 5,000 structures. One of the tornadoes struck the town of Arabi, whose residents were still rebuilding from a deadly EF-3 tornado that struck in March of this year.

Local news outlets report that roughly 40,000 customers have had their power restored. Around 47,000 were without power at the peak of outages. Two schools in Jefferson Parish and Arabi Elementary School in St. Bernard Parish will remain closed until further notice.

Convoy will continue to communicate with partners in the affected areas to see if any further resources will be needed.
