Before children can learn to read, they must learn the alphabet. Before they can learn addition and subtraction, they must learn numbers. And before children can achieve their dreams to the best of their abilities, they must have food.
When children go to school hungry, they face the day with food on their minds. Hunger causes fatigue, irritability, trouble concentrating, and frequent illness. A headache or upset stomach makes it much harder to focus on studies. Dizziness makes it hard to read the words on the chalkboard.
Maru is learning the foundations of her education — the alphabet, numbers, and how to count — so it is critical that she receives the nutrition she needs for the school day.
Thankfully, Maru goes to a school where Convoy of Hope feeds kids every day.
“I get super excited when it’s lunchtime because we get to eat delicious rice and other yummy foods,” Maru said.
Her mom volunteers in the feeding program and helps cook the food. Maru likes getting to go to and from school with her mom.
And the feeding program takes some of the pressure off of Maru’s mom. She knows Maru will always have enough food to eat at school.
Maru even has energy to play with her friends, which is her advice for any kid going through a tough time: “Play with friends and eat food.”
Good advice, Maru!
Thank you for helping Convoy meet the nutritional needs of kids all over the world like Maru. Because of your partnership, Maru can learn, grow, play with her friends, and eat delicious food.
