Convoy Responds to Catastrophic Flooding in Australia

Australia Reported by Convoy of Hope

Convoy of Hope has been responding to torrential flooding in Australia since late February. Record-breaking rainfall resulted in severe flooding for New South Wales and Queensland. The states received more than an entire year’s worth of rainfall in one week.

The flooding has forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate their homes in search of safety. Over the weekend, New South Wales received more than 1.6 feet of rain in two days. It is the most populous state in Australia with more than 8 million people.

Even amid imminent danger, many residents either cannot leave or don’t want to risk leaving their homes. Thankfully, Convoy of Hope Australia has provided essentials to people in need. This relief includes food, water, hygiene items, and other necessities — some of which were hand-delivered.

Several Australians are still picking up the pieces of their homes and businesses. At the same time, many are trying to prepare for the possibility of more rainfall later this year. Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a 50% chance of the La Niña weather system re-forming before the end of 2022.

Despite the uncertainty, Convoy of Hope will continue to provide relief to the flooding in Australia. Convoy is grateful for the people, organizations, and churches who have helped with this response.
