‘There is hope in whatever situation we face.’

Tanzania Reported by Convoy of Hope

In rural Tanzania, a little girl named Sharifa lives with her parents, who are farmers. Every day, Sharifa walks to school, where she works toward her goal to be the best in her class. This is a big dream for Sharifa since she couldn’t always attend school. Her parents, though they work hard, couldn’t consistently provide food and school supplies. Living in poverty meant her family had limited access to basic necessities.

“It was like someone living with no hope at all,” Sharifa said. Sometimes when she did get to go to school, her teachers would give her extra money for food to sustain her on her walk home. But even with their acts of kindness, the uncertainty of where her next meal would come from weighed on Sharifa.

Then Convoy of Hope started its Children’s Feeding program at Sharifa’s school. With the assurance of daily meals at school, she returned to the classroom with a renewed sense of purpose and a drive to succeed.

“My life has changed, as I can access enough food and my health is improving day to day. I love school,” Sharifa said.

Instead of worrying about hunger, Sharifa can focus on learning. She loves to write and read. The nutrition she receives through the program fuels her ambition, and she no longer misses class.

“I’m no longer walking with an empty stomach. It gives me the power to concentrate on my studies.”

Sharifa is proof that there is power in a simple meal. There is power in giving children the strength to learn, dream, and build a brighter future.

“There is hope in whatever situation we face,” Sharifa said. “I’m so happy for the great support from Convoy of Hope.”
