Thousands of Filipinos Receive Food After Torrential Rain

Thousands of families in the Philippines are receiving much-needed relief supplies after torrential rainfall left many without the basics, such as food and clean water.

Fortunately, the Philippines did not take a direct hit from Typhoon Kompasu in early October, but many homes and businesses were still flooded in the aftermath.

“We weren’t sure where it was going to head, but the storm went north of the Philippines and hit around Vietnam and China. The flooding has been the problem,” said Neemias Cortes with Convoy of Hope’s Disaster Services team. “Convoy is helping around 17,000 families right now, mainly with meals.”

Convoy of Hope provided resources to a local church in the Philippines, where they handed out essentials to those impacted by the storm. An additional 2,000 families now have food, tarps, and flashlights.

“[These] families were hit hard by flooding. We were happy to help,” said Cortes.

Convoy also resourced a local government agency who reached out for help. All of this was made possible through Convoy’s generous donors, who helped provide thousands of bags of food that will feed families for two weeks.
