Hope Brings Change

Moldova Reported by Convoy of Hope

In southern Moldova, Convoy of Hope programs are helping transform lives every day. At the heart of this change is Convoy’s Children’s Feeding initiative, where 60 children regularly receive not just food but care, encouragement, and a safe place to grow. They get help with homework, hot nutritious meals, and most importantly, the opportunity to be cared for in a safe setting. Children in a secure environment are more likely to express themselves, explore and be creative, and experience joy.

Amelia is one of the 60 children who are part of this Children’s Feeding initiative. But her journey to finding this safe space was not an easy one. For as long as she can remember, Amelia has had a complicated relationship with her family and classmates because of stealing. The school psychologist and social services workers often pulled her out of class to confront her about the repeated thefts.

Eventually, Amelia was taken out of her family and placed in a foster family in hopes that she could be re-educated in how to live among others as a trusted individual. But she continued to steal from her classmates.

One day, the school psychologist contacted our volunteers at the Children’s Feeding initiative with the news that Amelia had been taken into custody by the Moldovan juvenile authorities. With few options left, the authorities allowed our volunteers one last chance to reach her.

That’s when Olga, one of our leaders, stepped in. Amelia opened up to Olga about the thoughts she had that encouraged her to steal and why. Olga could tell that Amelia needed hope and love. After their conversation, she invited Amelia to the program.

Almost immediately, everyone noticed a change in Amelia. She was no longer stealing, and the joy on her face was contagious. Now she attends the program every day and has yet to miss. Because of this deep change in her heart, Amelia has also been placed back with her family!

The transformation in Amelia’s life happened because someone believed in her when no one else would. Around the world, Convoy of Hope programs like this one help children find safety, belonging, and a new path forward. Today, Amelia is thriving — not just because she’s fed, but because she is seen. She is a reminder that hope, when extended, can truly change a life.
