The Salvation Army Provides Nearly $1M to Convoy of Hope’s Response to War in Ukraine

SPRINGFIELD, MO — JUNE 23, 2021 — The Salvation Army is partnering with Convoy of Hope for humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine, providing Convoy with nearly $1 million worth of food for displaced Ukrainians in need.

“This partnership between The Salvation Army World Service Office and Convoy of Hope means that more than $800,000 in food is making its way to the region quickly and efficiently to help those most impacted by this crisis,” said Salvation Army Commissioner Kenneth Hodder. “More than 180,000 people will be provided with meals and The Salvation Army is beyond grateful to Convoy of Hope for joining with us in this service.”

Leadership from The Salvation Army’s national headquarters will travel to Convoy of Hope’s World Distribution Center in Springfield, Missouri, on Monday, June 27, at 9:30 a.m. to sign a memorandum of understanding. Those in attendance will also see aid bound for Ukraine loaded into Convoy of Hope’s tractor-trailers. 

National Commander Commissioner Kenneth Hodder, National Community Relations and Development Secretary Dale Bannon, and National Secretary of the World Service Office Lt. Colonel George Baker will attend the signing on behalf of The Salvation Army. 

“The Salvation Army has such an incredible history of meeting the needs of people,” said Convoy of Hope President Hal Donaldson. “This generous donation will continue to do that, affecting the lives of Ukrainians in a powerful way and helping Convoy of Hope continue its long-term response to this conflict.” 

Convoy of Hope has committed to providing 50 million meals to those affected by the crisis. Since the war began in February, more than 3,700 civilian casualties have been reported. However, the unofficial number is estimated to be in the tens of thousands. Nearly 7 million Ukrainians have fled to neighboring countries, and nearly 8 million are displaced inside Ukraine.
