Convoy of Hope Responds to Devastating Washington Wildfires

SPRINGFIELD, MO (August 3, 2026) — Convoy of Hope is responding to rapidly spreading wildfires in Spokane County, Washington, where thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate their homes as firefighters battle uncontained blazes.

Three major wildfires, collectively known as the Spokane Area Fire, have burned more than 7,700 acres and destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses. Officials estimate that approximately 60,000 people have evacuated as strong winds, extreme heat, and prolonged drought conditions continue to fuel the fires.

Authorities have described the disaster as one of the most destructive events in the area’s history. Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown called the wildfires “the worst natural disaster our region has faced,” while Washington Governor Bob Ferguson declared a statewide emergency.

More than 900 firefighters have been deployed to combat the flames. Officials report that more than 600 structures have been damaged or destroyed, while thousands of homes and businesses remain without power.

Convoy of Hope is responding with emergency assistance for affected families and is coordinating with local partners to distribute clean drinking water, food, hygiene items, and other essential supplies.

“As the wildfires rage, so many people have been forced to leave their homes, not knowing when they will be able to return or whether their home will still be standing,” said Convoy of Hope Vice President of Public Engagement Ethan Forhetz. “Convoy is delivering life sustaining relief supplies to those survivors to give them some comfort as their lives are turned upside down.”

Washington has experienced unusually dry conditions, high temperatures, and strong winds, contributing to what officials have described as the state’s worst wildfire season in three decades. Air quality alerts remain in effect across much of Washington and neighboring states as smoke continues to spread throughout the region.

Families returning to their communities have discovered widespread devastation, with many losing homes, vehicles, and personal belongings.

As affected communities begin the long process of recovery, Convoy of Hope remains committed to serving those impacted by the disaster.
