Convoy of Hope Meets Immediate Needs After Indonesia Earthquake

SPRINGFIELD, MO (August 17, 2026) — Families across Indonesia’s eastern region are grappling with the intense aftermath of recovery after Saturday’s 7.7-magnitude earthquake put communities in a state of emergency. Convoy of Hope is delivering essential relief supplies to survivors.

Survivors now face numerous and dangerous obstacles, including life-threatening landslides, impassable roadways, a lack of shelter, severely limited medical care, and growing hunger as available supplies quickly diminish.

More than 200 people with injuries, and thousands of residents fled their communities. At least 68 deaths have been confirmed, though the toll is expected to rise. Hundreds of buildings, including homes and hospitals, have been damaged or destroyed.

Thousands of people are now living in temporary tents and beneath blankets, waiting in streets and open fields to avoid the instability of remaining structures.

Aftershocks continue to shake the region, with more than 1,500 recorded since the earthquake struck. Combined with the ongoing danger of landslides, the search for signs of life has become a grueling endeavor. Rescue workers continue searching for survivors who may still be trapped beneath wreckage.

Convoy of Hope is distributing relief supplies including food, water, hygiene items and more to survivors, helping meet immediate needs as communities face the difficult road to recovery.

The situation remains dire, and recovery will not come quickly. By providing stable, tangible care in the midst of uncertainty, Convoy of Hope is helping families find hope as they begin rebuilding their lives.
