Providing Tangible Hope After Devastation in the Bahamas
In August 2019, Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas as a Category 5 hurricane. It was recorded as the worst natural disaster in the country’s history. Although there are large discrepancies in the exact number of fatalities, the loss of life was staggering. Thousands of Bahamians sustained major property damage.
Following the disaster, Convoy of Hope was on the ground to offer help to those who needed it most.
Sheena McIntosh, along with her son who has special needs, ran to a neighbor’s house to take shelter after she realized the winds were lifting up her roof and slamming it back down. Sheena was uninsured, widowed, and needed hope. To meet her needs, Convoy of Hope partnered with International Relief Teams (IRT) to provide Sheena and her son with a new, sturdier roof.
“Everything was that roof, and after that, everything took off. And that’s how we got back home,” she said.
