Our Disaster Services team continues to work with in-country partners to deliver emergency relief supplies to the hardest-hit areas in Ecuador. Teams of volunteers are being mobilized to distribute supplies in communities along the western coastline, closest to the epicenter. Family kits are filled with items identified by residents of the impacted communities as most-needed. Since our response began, we have served nearly 2,000 families and have provided more than 43,000 meals to people affected by the earthquake.

Convoy of Hope’s Disaster Services team is en route to Ecuador to work with in-country partners in communities devastated by last weekend’s massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake. The team’s initial work will be distributing emergency relief supplies and water filters in some of the country’s hardest-hit areas.

Team members will also work with our in-country partners to determine the most effective way to meet as many short- and long-term needs as possible. As usual, Convoy of Hope will focus its work on families with children who lack resources and are often overlooked.

Convoy of Hope’s Disaster Services team is responding to a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the central coast of Ecuador on Saturday night. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands injured in what many are calling the worst earthquake to strike Ecuador — which is on the west coast of South America — in the past 40 years.

Hundreds of homes have been completely destroyed and thousands of families are without electricity and water. Landslides triggered by the earthquake have made many roads impassable, which has delayed relief efforts in some communities. Convoy of Hope is working with in-country partners to bring help and hope to communities hardest-hit by the earthquake.
