Convoy of Hope hosted a San Jose Community Event that uplifted spirits and filled backpacks over the weekend. Convoy partnered with local churches, businesses, and organizations to serve the community with supplies for the upcoming school year.
Seventeen churches and 30 organizations came together, serving more than 3,200 people. Each guest had access to haircuts, career services, a Kids’ Zone, back-to-school supplies, children’s shoes, lunches, veterans and health services, and family portraits.
Before the event, local volunteers filled 820 backpacks with school supplies. Additionally, Convoy gave out 1,422 pairs of shoes to children and 5,000 bags of groceries to the San Jose community.
As part of this experience, guests had access to free health services and professional health advice. These services came from The Salvation Army, National Breast Cancer Foundation, and various career services.
Convoy’s Ryan Bowles said it was great to be back in San Jose, where Convoy served in 2019 at a similar Community Event. Since then — after years of COVID-19 restrictions — Convoy’s Community Events are growing significantly. Thousands of Guests of Honor receive the essentials they need, and the kindness and dignity they deserve.
“So many churches and organizations came together to make it possible,” Ryan said. “The overwhelming responses from our Guests of Honor indicate how great the need still is.”
